Spice Market  News

09/07/09 - The spice prices were steady through out the week except for Pepper, Turmeric and Fenugreek. Where as pepper and fenugreek prices were up on increased demand owing to festivals, turmeric prices decreased a little owing to good rain in the growing areas and weak demand at higher prices.

In the futures market spice prices opened steady on the 1st of the month. Cumin futures rose a little on expectations of increase in demand. Prices may come under pressure later in the day on expectations of improving output after reports of rains in Gujarat, a key producing region. Turmeric prices are under pressure currently owing to good rains received in the cultivation areas. But the gap between demand and supply will help price's upward trend in the future. Indian pepper prices and demand are expected to rise a little owing to low global supply of the spice. Fennel prices are also set to rise owing to low stocks of good quality fennel.

08/23/09 - High volatility was noted for Turmeric in the futures market. Bad weather in parts of Andhra Pradesh and predictions of rains in coming days had been keeping prices under check for Turmeric for the time being.  Apprehensions of low production this year continued from deficient rains will keep the prices at higher levels compared to last year. Chili prices are expected to rise from their current levels owing to steady increase in demand seen in the markets and good exports in the last month or so to Middle east and neighboring countries for preparations by importers ahead of Ramadan. For Black Pepper traders expect both export and domestic demand to pick up.

08/08/09 - Cumin prices are expected to rise from their current levels owing to steady increase in demand seen in the markets of Unjha in the last couple of weeks. Black Pepper prices are also expected to maintain the higher levels owing to increased domestic demand.
